The Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine, Texas is an awesome weekend spot for your family. It is very kid-friendly and provides lots of activities for the whole family. It is a resort hotel that provides places for lodging as well as dining and entertainment. It is a bit expensive, but there are always ways to get special promotions and save a couple bucks.
The main attraction at the Great Wolf Lodge is the indoor water park. With a lazy river, wave pool, kid’s spash pad, and 5 water slides, there is plenty of activities for any water-lover. There are children’s activities throughout the day all over the hotel, including an arcade, kids’ nail salon, laser tag, ropes course, ice cream parlor, theater, and a special evening story time with the Great Wolf Lodge characters. When you purchase a magic wand from the gift shop, your child can walk (but will probably run) the Magiquest around the hotel. In the shops and hallways your child will be able to seek out special interactive stops where he can meet characters and set off on a quest. To activate the interactive trees, animals, screens, and all that he just needs to wave the wand in front of the sensor. It’s magic!
As far as food goes, the Great Wolf Lodge has a variety of options. There is a snack bar (complete with adult beverages) in the water park area, a pizza parlor, and a formal dining area. The formal dining offers a time three times a day for a buffet-style meal and made-to-order for all the times in between. The formal dining isn’t cheap, but it is super good just in case you want to give it a go at least once during your trip. YOLO. Ha.
The story time is really great for kids 3-10, but any time after would probably be a little too childish. In the evenings before bed guests are invited to the fireplace in the lobby to hear a story and watch the animatronic woodland characters put on a show. Your child will also see the lodge’s characters Wiley and friends. Children love to listen to the stories, but they also really love to come out and sit by the tree in their pajamas.
So there you have it. The Great Wolf Lodge is awesome for a short getaway and is ideal for children 3-10. It is expensive, but you can always watch for room specials and pack your own food. You won’t need to plan on leaving the resort because there’s tons to do, but be prepared to spend a couple bucks. Give it a shot! My family had a blast.
